Situated 50 minutes from the airport, Almádena is a typical Algarvean village in the quieter, less commercial side of the Algarve. It still boasts its wash-house as well as 4 bars, 2 restaurants and a coffee shop. There are two small village shops and a tiny daily market where fresh fish caught that morning is sold and the local farmers take their produce to sell.

The nearby beaches at Luz or Burgau are about 4km away and are excellent Blue Flag beaches, as are many in Portugal. There are numerous hidden coves, nearly all sandy and often deserted. One beach stretches 12 kilometres so you are sure to find a spot for yourselves.

This quieter, less commercial end is on the edge of the national park area and has stunning scenery and beautiful surroundings though if you wish to explore outside of the Algarve, the motorway leads to Spain and you can be in Seville within 3 hours. Lisbon is about 4 hours away by high-speed train or by toll-motorway.

THE LOCALITY

The beautiful city of Lagos, once the capital of the Algarve, is 7 kilometres away and is full of historic attractions and the modern marina. There are many excellent restaurants around the whole area and the friendliness of the Portuguese is second to none. In the opposite direction is Sagres, once believed to be the end of the world and where Henry the Navigator trained the Portuguese explorers. Today fisherman climb on ropes down the sheer cliffs to take home their dinner and unfortunately each year, a number tumble into the crashing Atlantic below.

Alvor is lovely fishing town, where the fish is cooked on street barbecues for you. Inland, Silves is another historic town with a huge Moorish influence and the mountain of Monchique behind Silves is the highest point on the Algarve. The views are stunning and the eucalyptus, fir and cork trees have a lovely aroma. It is the home to the last few remaining Iberian lynx.

There are many golf courses with Boa Vista, Parque da Floresta and Palmares all being within 10 minutes of the villa. We can arrange archery for you, there are boats for fishing or dolphin-watching, a small zoo nearby and also a number of water parks for a days entertainment.

With the stunning scenery and beautiful surroundings, this is an excellent place to wind down and enjoy the relaxing atmosphere of Portugal.
